HIP CHECK: Ford Madox Ford’s Meaningful History
https://www.brunelsport.com/trasparenza The rewards of critical acclaim can bring complications so intense as to end many Good Things before they even really begin. Performers work their asses off to overcome the hype of just one successful band. We’re now going to talk about a couple of guys that were in THREE, that, well, kinda changed the world. Just a little. At least around LA.

— KRISTI CALLAN, lead singer of the Dime Box Band, https://drcarlosarzabe.com/libros introducing their version of the Rank and File song “Amanda Ruth” https://roaringwriters.org/charlie-brown from the stage @ Echoplex/LA, February 15, 2020
Order Ultram Online Chip and Tony Kinman are rock royalty in Los Angeles, up there with John and Exene, Phil and Dave, and D Boon and Watt. The brothers gave shape to A) early punk, B) Americana, and C) electric blues.

https://sbmg.org/volunteering Their first band, the Dils, legendary straight-up punkers with a sly take on politics and an ever-so-slight hint of country twang, bubbled to the surface in 1976. Never releasing a proper album during their original run, the Dils eventually dissolved in 1980.
The Kinmans re-emerged in 1982 with the highly respected Rank and File, and combining with performers like the Long Ryders, Dwight Yokam and Jason and the Scorchers, helped give form (admittedly a vast understatement) to the original sound of the genre that came to be called Americana.
Line-ups evolved, experiments were had, and now flash to 2016: Chip and Tony re-team for their latest endeavor, Ford Madox Ford (along with guitarist Dewey Peek, drummer S. Scott Aguero and bassist Matt Littell), whose stated mission is “to reintroduce blues to a roots-starved populous,” and along the way throw in alluring doses of punk, country and gospel.
Tony produced the album and wrote many of the songs. Though his singing voice may be absent, his sensibility and taste run throughout the band’s music. The album came out in February, 2018 and sadly, Tony passed in May, 2018. I hope he knew of FDMXFD’s glowing reviews and heard his brother’s strong shows. Mostly, I hope he understood the respect and esteem the LA music community had for his songs and accomplishments.
I think the absolute world of Chip Kinman, we all do. And I mourn Tony’s passing to this very second. Check out Cowboy Nation too, some great tunes! Looking forward so much to hearing Chip’s new band tomorrow night @theroxy.

If real rock radio still existed in LA, FDMXFD would, by all that is holy, be in heavy rotation. “Dark American Night” (below) was the first video released, and a strong debut indeed. I believe the strongest song of the set, however, is actually “Immediate Nico” (also below), a track that would have fit in perfectly on KMET, KLOS, KFOG, KGB, KRXQ or any station with the balls to actually back up a claim of being their city’s “best rock.”
Turn them both up. LOUD. Now you’re talking….
Close your eyes. Open your mind.
Trust your ears.
